General

Will the Adoption Disclosure Register affect me?

The Adoption Disclosure Register affects birth parents and adopted children, once the child reaches the age of 18. Recent legislation is increasing the ability of both parties to access information that was once unavailable.

Why "...for Jesus"?

All of us are "adopted" into God's family through His sacrifice.

For Birth Parents

What are the steps in an adoption?

Normally, the first step in an adoption is confirming that adoption is actually the best plan for you and the child. Choices should be examined so that you will be confident in your decision down the road. Our support staff is available to assist you in this process. Once the choice for adoption is solid, the following steps are typical:

  1. Select an adoption agency or adoption licensee (like Jewels For Jesus).
  2. Make a list of what is important for you in choosing an adoptive family.
  3. You will be asked to provide medical and social information about yourself and your family background.
  4. Review family profiles and select an adoptive family that will be right for your child.
  5. Most people want to meet the family they have selected and nowadays extensive ongoing contact with them is the norm.
  6. The agency or licensee will help you as you carefully plan for the time of your child’s birth, your hospital stay and the adoption.
  7. When your child is eight days old you must complete a "Parent's or Custodian's Consent to Adoption" in the presence of a lawyer.
  8. From that time, you have 21 days within which you may rescind your decision.

How long will it take?

  1. After the birth (for a newborn adoption), you must wait 8 days, then complete a "Parent's or Custodian's Consent to Adoption".
  2. You then have 21 days to rescind your decision. During this time, the child may be at the adoptive parents' home, or in short term foster care.

How much will it cost?

In a private adoption, the full cost of an adoption is assumed by the adoptive parents. There is no financial expectation from the birth parents.

  4. Register with an adoption agency (like Jewels For Jesus).

  6. Wait for a birth family to decide you are the right parents for their child.

  8. After the birth (for a newborn adoption), the birth parents must wait 8 days, then complete a "Parent's or Custodian's Consent to Adoption".
